Meetings were held in the Fall of 2004 and Spring of 2005 in Osceola to begin the formation of a new youth football league in Southern Iowa. A group of 18 people worked together to form the POIYFL. The Pride Of Iowa Youth Football League began play in the Fall of 2005 with six teams: I-35 White, I-35 Blue,
East Union, Lamoni/Leon, Bedford, and Corning. In 2006, the league doubled
in size by adding Ringgold (Raider) White, Ringgold (Raider) Black, Nodaway Valley, Central Decatur, MstM,
and SEW. In 2007, the league again added eight new teams: Red
Oak Orange, Red Oak Black, Shenandoah Silver, Shenandoah
Maroon, Albany, Worth Co. Bethany Purple, and Bethany White.
In 2008, we then
added two teams from Osceola, two from Clarinda, two from
Glenwood, one from Malvern, and one from Fremont-Miller-Tabor.
2009 brought in four more teams, three from Creston and one
from Glenwood. In 2010, Glenwood dropped a team, but
Nishnabotna (Hamburg-Farragut) joined. Now with 32 teams
total, the league is divided into three divisions; North,
South, and West. All three groups will be POIYFL affiliated.
